Position: Legal Advocate (full-time)

Department: Family Services Women and Children’s Shelter

Supervisor: Family Violence Program Director

General Duties and Responsibilities: The primary function of the Legal Advocate is to accompany the client through the criminal justice system including developing a safety plan; contacting community resources; and participating in regular case review. In addition, the legal advocate provides outreach to help identify domestic violence victims in need of services; coordinate support groups with domestic violence victims; and develop materials and assist with presentations in the community.

Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, or other related field. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to handle crisis situations and multiple tasks. Valid Texas driver’s license. Bilingual a plus.

Salary: Depends on experience and education.

General Duties and Responsibilities: The primary function of the Resident Advocate is to assist residents in obtaining shelter services including answer telephone (hotline calls); complete intake procedures for clients; and provide for safety and security of shelter through shift.

Qualifications and Experience: High school diploma or GED; some college preferred. Good interpersonal skills; organizational skills, and conceptual skills. Bilingual a plus.

Salary: Depends on experience and education.
